The APU is an initiative of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union. It is the first continental network of universities whose mission is to provide quality postgraduate education geared towards the realization of a prosperous, integrated, and peaceful Africa.

Young, talented, and enterprising graduate candidates from African countries and the Diaspora are invited to apply to join the Masters or Doctoral programs at any of the four (4) UPA Institutes below. High-potential, self-motivated candidates with a desire to take on transformational leadership roles in academia, professional, or industrial settings, or in business are particularly encouraged to apply.

Admission requirements for the Master’s programs

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. Be under 30 years of age for male applicants and
male applicants and 35 years old for female applicants.
2. Hold an undergraduate degree from a recognized university, obtained with honors.
3. 3. Provide certified copies of diplomas and transcripts and transcripts.
4. Provide a copy of the passport or a copy of the national identity card (personal information page).
5. Provide 1 passport-size color photo (2 cmx2cm); Detailed CV.
6. Provide 1 letter of recommendation from 1 Teacher from your university.
7. Provide the names of 3 University Teachers
Reference Teachers (with email addresses and WhatsApp numbers) (Required).

Admission requirements for Ph.D. programs

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be under 35 years of age for male applicants and 40 years of age for female applicants.
  • Have a Master’s degree in a field taught at Pan African University or a recognized university, obtained with honors.
  • Provide certified copies of diplomas and transcripts, Provide a copy of your passport or national identity card (personal details page).
  • Provide a passport-size color photo (2cmx2cm); Provide a detailed CV
    Provide 2 letters of recommendation from 2 professors at your university
    Provide the names of 3 reference professors from your university (with an email address and WhatsApp numbers) (Required).
  • Provide a 3 or 4-page research proposal (a topic proposal, questions, objectives, research problem, etc.)
  • Applicants may be asked to take a written / oral exam after selection.
  • Applicants to the Master of Arts in Conference Interpretation and Translation programs must have excellent knowledge of at least two of the official languages of the African Union (Arabic, English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese).

The AU Commission will offer scholarships to successful candidates for the duration of the course.

Fellows will be required to commit to working in Africa after graduation.
