If you plan to study in Germany, you need a student visa. Once you have met all the requirements for admission to a German university, the application phase for a student visa in Germany begins.

Visas depend on the applicant’s country of origin. Citizens of EU countries don’t need a student visa in Germany.

Citizens of the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea only need to register with the local population registration office and the foreigners’ registration office to obtain a residence permit. This is done within two weeks of arrival in the country.

Citizens of the rest of the world, on the other hand, need a visa to enter Germany.

In principle, this must be applied at the German embassy or consulate in the country of origin. The visa fee does not exceed 60 euros.

You must apply for a student visa for Germany at least three months before your departure. To do so, the student must contact the German embassy or consulate in his/her home country.

It should be noted that the application for a residence permit is for study purposes.

Required documents

The list is similar to the one for obtaining a visa:

  1. Proof of valid subscription to private or public health insurance.
  2. Certificate of enrollment at the university.
  3. Proof of sufficient funding to study and live in Germany.
